A layer (element) is an object that holds an asset within the design. Layers have different properties that can be unique per artboard and placement variant.
You can view all the artboards and layers associate with each artboard in your project and immediately pan and zoom to a specific artboard from the Layers panel.
There are two type of layers in the Marpipe Ad Builder. One is variant layer or dynamic layer that can be thought of as placeholders. They can hold multiple variants or product data. The other layer type is fixed layer or static layer who exists solely for decorating the design.
Layers in the MVT designs
Variant layers
In a MVT design, variant layers are the elements that you will be experimenting with in your test, like a product shot or a headline. When you set a layer as a variant layer, it becomes a variant group that allows you to add more assets versions/variants from the assets library when you move on to Variant Mode.
To change a layer to a variant layer, hover on the layer and click on the test tube icon. Then you can see the layer shows up as green and are present in every single artboard.
Fixed layers
Fixed layer are the elements that only serve as decorations in a design, like a section divider or an illustration. They are specific to the artboards that they are added to. Fixed layers won't show up in the variant mode.
To change a layer to a fixed layer, hover on the layer and click on the push pin icon. Then you can see the layer shows up as purple and will only exist on the artboard it was added to.
Layers in the Feed designs
Dynamic layers
In a feed deisgn, a dynamic layer can be linked to a column in the Source Feed, it will be filled with the product data from the linked column and render the product rows. A common dynamic layer can be a product image or product text info (name, description, price).
To change a layer to a dynamic layer, hover on the layer and click on the test tube icon. Then you can see the dynamic layer shows up as green and will be added to the 'Link Columns' page.
Static layers
Static layers are similar to the fixed layer in the MVT design, they normally serve as decorations in a design and won't show up in the 'Link Columns' page.
To change a layer to a static layer, hover on the layer and click on the push pin icon. Then you can see the layer shows up as purple.
Editing Layers
Reordering layers
Click and drag on the handle in front of each layer to change the layer orders
Renaming Layers
Double-click on a layer name to activate the name input
Enter a new name
Press 'Return' on the keyboard or click on the outside area of the name input to confirm the change
Editing Layer Properties
Click once on a layer, you will see the property panel of this layer shows up on the right. Layers contains different type of assets will have different property panels.
Deleting Layers
Click 'X' button on a layer to delete it. You also can select the trashcan icon in the action button group on the top right corner of the page to delete a layer.
