Edit Field Mappings

Customize which fields are present in your different output feeds to make adjustments across channels

Written by Pierce Porterfield

A critical piece of managing your feed in Marpipe is controlling which fields get sent to the ad network and what those fields are called.

Whenever you create an output feed, the same internal fields will be consistent across with what you have set in the main manage fields page – but you are able to make adjustments that only apply to that output feed from it's unique manage fields page.

Choosing which output feeds a field goes to

From the main Manage Fields page, every field has an output feed tag that controls which feeds it's included in. Click the tag to open a menu where you can select All output feeds or check off individual feeds.

The tag color reflects the current state at a glance:

  • Gray — "Internal only": the field is in no output feeds and stays internal to Marpipe

  • Green — "All output feeds": the field is in every output feed

  • Yellow — "Some output feed(s)": the field is in some but not all of your feeds This lets you scope a field to specific feeds — for example a particular channel, market, or brand — without opening each output feed one by one. Standard fields can be assigned this way too, not just custom fields. Closing the menu commits your selection.

Removing a field from an Output Feed

To remove a field from an output feed, you can un-check the output feed from the main manage fields page OR you can go to the output feed page itseld and click "Manage Fields" in the upper right. From this page you can make adjustments that will only apply to this feed.

You will see that every field which has it's output feed toggled active in the main manage fields page is present in this page.

You can override the default behavior and choose to exclude them from this output feed by switching them off from this page.

Once you make changes, you will need to click the update button to commit them to the feed.

Renaming a field

From the Output Feed's manage field page you can also alter the name of a field. The changes will only apply to this feed.

The field names in the left hand column represent the "Internal Field" names while the column on the right represents what these will be exported as.

Simply click in any text input in the right column to adjust what the column will be titled in this feed.

Two active fields may not have the same name in the same output feed.

Replacing a field

You may find yourself in a situation where you want to use an entirely different version of a field for one one output feed vs another.

The best way to handle this, is to first create a new custom field for the alternate version of your feed from the main manage fields page.

When setting up this new field, use its output feed tag to include it in the feed(s) where you want the replacement to appear. You can scope it to just that feed instead of all feeds, so it won't affect your other outputs.

Next, navigate to that output feed and click Manage Fields. You'll first need to turn off and blank out the default field — for example, if you're replacing title, change its export name and switch it off here.

Once you've done this, change the export name of your custom field to the proper name ("title" in this example).
