Video catalog ads let you showcase your products with motion instead of static images. In Marpipe, you can create video designs that render a unique product-level video (PLV) for every SKU in your feed — using the same linked feed layers, filters, and design tools you're already familiar with from static designs.
This article walks through how to create a video design, work with frames, preview your videos, and add them to your output feed.
Creating a Video Design
There are two ways to start a video design:
Option 1 — Start fresh: From the Designs page, click Create Video Slideshow at the top of the page. This will open a new blank video canvas.
Option 2 — Convert an existing design: Open an existing image design in the Ad Builder, click the options menu (three dots) in the top left corner, and select the option to change the design to video mode.
Once in video mode, the Ad Builder works the same as it does for static designs — you can drag in linked feed layers, add text and graphics, apply filters, and adjust layer properties. All of the same canvas sizes are available (1:1, 4:5, 9:16, etc.), so you can create video treatments for any placement.
Working with Frames
A video design is made up of multiple frames, each acting as a step in your video sequence. Every frame is its own canvas that you can design independently.
Adding Frames
To add a new blank frame, click the + button on any existing frame. The new frame will be inserted to the right of the one you clicked.
To duplicate a frame, click the Duplicate button on the frame you want to copy. This inserts an exact duplicate to the right. Duplicating is recommended when you only need to change a few elements between frames — it saves time compared to building each frame from scratch.
Frame Duration
Above each frame you can adjust its duration. The minimum frame duration is 0.25 seconds and the maximum is 5 seconds. In the top bar of the Ad Builder, you'll see the total video duration, which is the sum of all your individual frame lengths.
Managing Layers Across Frames
In the Layers panel, you'll see a section for each frame with its layers listed underneath. This lets you control the layers in each frame individually.
To copy an element from one frame to another, select the element on the canvas and press Cmd+C (or Ctrl+C on Windows). Then click into the destination frame and press Cmd+V (or Ctrl+V) to paste it in.
Previewing Your Video
Preview from the Canvas
To preview the video for the product currently showing on your canvas, click the Play button in the top bar. Marpipe will render the video and loop it automatically so you can see how the frames flow together.
Preview Page
From the full preview page, you'll see the first frame displayed for a sample of 48 SKUs. Click Play on any one of them to render and view the full video for that product.
You can also use the arrow controls to change which frame is being shown across the preview grid. This is helpful for checking how different frames look across a larger selection of products before publishing.
Adding Your Video Design to an Output Feed
Every output feed in Marpipe includes a video treatment slot. To get your video design into the feed:
Go to the Output Feeds tab and select your output feed
Find the Video Treatment slot in the feed
Add your video design to the video treatment
Click Publish Updates
You can place multiple video designs within the video treatment — this works the same way as static image treatments, where you can use filters to control which products get which design. Currently, each output feed supports only one video treatment slot.
Unlike static treatments, video treatments are not assigned to ads through Marpipe. Instead, you enable video delivery directly in the ad platform.
Enabling Video in Your Ad Platform
Meta
Video treatments require different ad settings than static treatments. In Meta Ads Manager:
Create a catalog ad (or edit an existing one)
Under Ad Creative, turn Dynamic Media ON
Keep Automatic video cropping OFF
Optional: If using Single Image/Video format, enable Prefer video if available in the customize settings
Publish the ad
Meta will automatically use the video if it's available for a product. Note that if Dynamic Media is enabled on any other catalog ad you're running, your videos may appear there as well — videos are accessed through Meta's creative options rather than being explicitly assigned to specific ads.
Important: This is the opposite of static treatments, where Dynamic Media must be turned OFF. For video, Dynamic Media must be ON.
