If your Meta catalog is connected through Shopify's built-in Facebook & Instagram sales channel, that integration owns your catalog's data. It controls the product info Meta receives — and, importantly, it controls your country and language overrides.
This can cause data priority errors: the Shopify integration and Marpipe end up competing to update the same catalog, and the integration can overwrite Marpipe's changes between sync cycles. It also blocks you from uploading country and language override feeds through Marpipe.
We recommend using a Marpipe output feed as your catalog's primary data source instead. This gives Marpipe clear ownership of the catalog, prevents the priority conflicts, and unlocks country and language override feeds.
This article walks you through making the switch.
Before You Start
You'll need:
Admin access to your Shopify account
Access to your Meta catalog settings (Commerce Manager)
Your Marpipe output feed URL — found on the Output Feed page in Marpipe. This is the same URL you'd connect to Meta or Google.
Heads up: This process changes what controls your live catalog. We recommend doing it during a low-traffic window and confirming your Marpipe output feed is complete and correct before you begin.
Step 1: Remove the Facebook & Instagram Channel in Shopify
This releases Shopify's ownership of your catalog data so Marpipe can take over.
Log in to your Shopify account
Go to Products
Select all products — check the box in the header row, then click Select all products if prompted (so you catch every product, not just the current page)
Click the ••• (three dots) button in the bulk-action bar
Choose Exclude from sales channels
Select Facebook & Instagram, then confirm
Show Image
Once this finishes, Shopify will stop pushing these products to your Meta catalog, freeing it up for Marpipe.
Note: Make sure you apply this to all products, not just the ones visible on the first page. Any product left in the Facebook & Instagram channel can continue to create sync conflicts.
Step 2: Turn Off the Shopify Redirect in Meta (If Needed)
In some catalogs, Meta redirects all catalog edits back to Shopify. While that setting is on, the scheduled-feed upload options won't appear in your data sources.
Open your catalog in Meta Commerce Manager
Go to Catalog → Settings (or Data Sources)
Look for an option that redirects catalog edits to Shopify and turn it off
Once this is off, the option to add a scheduled feed as a data source will become available.
Tip: If you already see scheduled-feed / data-feed upload options in your catalog's data sources, you can skip this step.
Step 3: Add Your Marpipe Output Feed as a Scheduled Feed
Now you'll connect your Marpipe output feed as the catalog's primary source.
In Marpipe, open the output feed you want to use as your primary source and copy its feed URL
In Meta Commerce Manager, go to your catalog's Data Sources
Choose to add a scheduled feed (also called a data feed)
Paste your Marpipe output feed URL
Set an upload schedule and save
Meta will pull your product data from Marpipe going forward. Your Marpipe output feed is now the primary source for the catalog.
Step 4: Add Your Country and Language Override Feeds
With Marpipe owning the catalog, you can now add override feeds.
Head back to Marpipe and upload your country and language override feeds as usual. These will now flow through to Meta without being overwritten by the Shopify integration.
Reminder: Images appear only in the language override feed.
Tips
Confirm your output feed first. Before removing the Shopify channel, double-check that your Marpipe output feed contains all the products and fields you expect. This becomes your source of truth for the catalog.
Select every product in Shopify. The bulk selection defaults to the current page — use "Select all products" so no items are left behind in the Facebook & Instagram channel.
Give Meta time to sync. After adding the scheduled feed, allow a sync cycle to complete before evaluating the catalog. The first pull may take a little while.
